How Do you Count the Days? 20 Years of Marriage

I think on the morning of your wedding day, the thought of your 20th anniversary is frankly pretty hard to imagine. I had no doubt we would have one - Todd and I entered this union with a "no backdoor" agreement and we've held to it through the tough days that inevitably come in any marriage.

But today we celebrate that 20 years, or 7,120 days, of marriage. In so many ways it's simply just another day in the Taylor household. And that is a wonderful thing. I truly adore (and appreciate and respect) my husband significantly more today than that day so many days ago when frankly I didn't really know what I was getting into.

The first morning of marriage was a hilarious one (not unlike many mornings that would follow). We tell this story often as we do marriage and pre-marital counseling so I am I just telling on myself here. I recall it like yesterday lounging in the B&B bed and Todd in the window seat reading (he always gets up before me!). I looked at him and burst into tears. I mean some serious tears and I am not a woman given to tears! My sweet new husband looked at me with incredible concern and asked, "What's wrong?" And this new bride declared, "It's so permanent."

Yep, I said that.

But what happened next is why our marriage has survived and thrived for 20 years. We both burst out laughing. That is the defining sound of our marriage. Laughter. Laughter at ourselves or circumstances or journey. We find a way to laugh.

So "Happy Anniversary" to the love of my life, Todd Raymond Taylor. I am so glad it's so permanent.

Our wedding invitation and my rings.

We took some pictures before the wedding so this is the first time we saw each other...note the laughter!

What to say...the hair color has definitely changed for both of us.
